Murphy’s War by Stephen G Johnson

These are books by a personal friend of mine, Steven G. Johnson, which I am willing to recommend just on the strength of his role playing games he moderated back when we were in school together. He knows how to cobble together a fun, fast-moving action-adventure plot.

Here is the pitch:

Austria-Hungary survived the Great War by accepting the aid of dark powers. Now in World War Two, it pits vampires, werewolves and zombies against the mortal Allies, but America and its friends have a few hole cards of their own. A few Elves, a few Dwarves, and a Troll or two supply the magical muscle to beat back the hordes of Austro-Hungaro-Romania. So watch out, Dracula — you may have survived Abbott and Costello, but now you’re up against Willie and Joe!

Mr. Johnson is soliciting reviews.
He is relaunching the book series as self-published, but all the reviews went with the old publisher. A five-star review or two keeps the first reviewer from giving it a terrible review which then lingers at the top of the listings forever.
