As for my opinion of the WorldCon SMOFs, that was established during the Sad Puppies debacle: They were given a chance to restore honesty and honor to the Hugo Awards, and they decided with gleeful insanity to burn down their own stronghold, leaving no stone atop another, raze their own fields, and salt the earth, rather than admit wrong. And so, of course, from that day to this, nothing has grown in the barren waste.
From time to time I hear echoes of rumors of some other giant in our field, Lovecraft or John W Campbell Jr, whose memory is fed to the Fenris Wolf, or I see and forget some article about some WorldCon GoH whose speech consists of slander and bitter scorn against the field and against the fans.
I do not hear of interesting, entertaining, well-crafted, popular, or imaginative books and stories getting Hugo awards.
Instead the award is given as a purely meaningless political award, that is, as a mechanism for aging whiteleft wokescolds virtue-signaling as hard as virtue can be signaled, to trumpet some utterly imaginary victory over the utterly imaginary forces of cisheternormative misogynotranshomophobic antislamistic colonoracist patriocaesaropapist theocracapitalistic evilarchy.
The whole thing would be sad and pathetic, if not funny, were it not ruining fandom for one and all — including themselves.
These withered, freakish creatures do not enjoy the empty filth heap they create in what was once a welcome home and fertile field for us all. Gollum is not happy.
